Our Space
Aside from providing the latest non-fiction and fiction books to our students and being the pit-stop for chrome books going to and from the technology team, my goal as the Library Media Specialist is to provide the tools and create an environment where students can read, study, do make-up work, take a test, enjoy some solitude or work quietly on a project. Our Library is “Home” and our students are part of the Spartan family. That means that everyone who walks through the doors is responsible for supporting this environment that is unlike other common spaces on campus. Here’s how to do that.
- Bring your student ID with you if you plan to check out books. This makes the process easier and keeps your student ID number private.
- Treat books and other library essentials with care. Use bookmarks, don’t draw or write in books, don’t rearrange furniture, always leave the area clean.
- Keep your voice low as you would during testing. If you would like to work on a group project that requires a presentation, please reserve the time with Ms. Cristy.
- Don’t bring food or drink into the library. In a carpeted room, even the smallest crumbs or spills ruin the floor and draw insects and rodents.
- Leave your phone in your bag. Phones are not allowed anywhere on campus.
- Ask for help when you need it. Help yourself when you are capable.
- Suggest books you want to read. We make two large purchases of books each school year. I am always looking for new titles that students would enjoy.
BOOKS
LIBRARY CATALOG ONLINE
The SMS library database can also be accessed by every student and teacher by using the link located in the upper left of your Bookmarks Bar when you are logged in on your school Chromebook. There you can search books, reserve books and even read many titles online. Ebooks are being added each semester. We have over 8000 items in the library including fiction, non-fiction, biographies, and reference materials.
Students may use their student ID to check out THREE books at a time for a period of two weeks. Books may be renewed if needed. To read an ebook, contact Ms. Cristy for login information.
Students with overdue books may not check out additional items until overdue books have been returned or payment has been made for lost books. As an alternative, free books are often available or many teachers have classroom libraries.
TECHNOLOGY
Student & Family Responsibilities:
- Compliance of the Acceptable Use Policy.
- Arrive each school day with a fully charged device.
- Learn how to properly care for your device & troubleshoot common glitches.
Library Responsibilities:
- Loaners are not given to students who fail to charge their device.
- Broken or malfunctioning devices should be brought to the library where the student will fill out a repair ticket and be issued a loaner device when available.
- Students are notified of repaired devices via email.
- Invoices will be issued to student families from the Technology staff as indicated by CA Education Code.
