Hello students, families, and community members, and welcome to the 2017-18 school year!  2017-18 is my third year as principal at Sinaloa and I continue to be honored to have the opportunity to serve students and families in this wonderful community. I know we are going to have a fantastic school year.  As we all know, each school year brings its own rewards and challenges for students, both academic and social.  Sinaloa has a long standing tradition of academic excellence, and all of Sinaloa’s teachers and staff are committed to doing whatever it takes for students to be successful.  Sinaloa will continue to guide students toward success using Project Based Learning (PBL) while emphasizing Collaboration, Communication, and Critical Thinking.  We will also continue our work with the deeper implementation of the Next Generation Science Standard (NGSS), College Preparatory Math (CPM) program, and we will begin our work on a new Social Studies curricular adoption.  Over the course of the 2017-18 school yea,r I expect us to accomplish great things together on behalf of our students.

For those who don’t know me, I’m beginning my 6th year as an administrator in NUSD.  Prior to my start at Sinaloa in 2015, I served as the Assistant Principal at San Jose Middle School for 3 years.  I began teaching in Novato 13 years ago at San Jose Middle School, and during my time as a teacher I taught: 6th & 7th Grade LA/SS-CORE, 7th Grade Science, Art, Physical Education, and Math Intervention.  As a Novato native and former Sinaloa student, I absolutely love being a part of this community.  My wife and I live in the Sinaloa neighborhood, and my sons will be Sinaloa students in the not too distant future.  I really like living and working in the same community.  I look forward to seeing students, families, and friends at little league games, in the gym, at the grocery store, or out on a hike or bike ride.  Please say hello when you see me, and I certainly will do the same.

I am a firm believer that a co-constructed vision leads to greater success, and I also believe that the definition of “leadership” includes the idea that one must take responsibility for what matters to them.  So I humbly invite you to help build a vision of success for Sinaloa, and to play and an active role in developing a plan of how we can best serve our students.  Thank you so much for your partnership and support, Go Saints!  – Jim Larson
